Jeffs Sweep Pair of Extra-Inning Thrillers Against Trinity April 13 - The red-hot Amherst College softball team extended its current winning streak to eight games with a pair of extra inning victories over visiting NESCAC rival Trinity College on Friday, upping its record to 14-4 on the season. The Jeffs took the opener 3-2 behind a 10th inning RBI single by senior left fielder Meg Nelson, while senior shortstop Shari Sakamoto used her third hit of the game-an RBI single in the eighth inning-to give the Jeffs a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

Peloquin Tosses Third Career No-Hitter as Jeffs Blank Brandeis, 8-0 April 10 - Junior pitcher Lauren Peloquin struck out 10 batters en route to her third career no-hitter, as the Jeffs' softball team blanked visiting Brandeis University 8-0 on Tuesday in a game that was called in the fifth inning due to the NCAA eight-run rule. Senior second baseman Carline Kelly (S. Dartmouth, MA) paced the Jeffs offensively with two hits on the afternoon, including a three-run triple in the fifth to ice the game. The Jeffs have now won six straight games, improving their record to 12-4 on the season.

Melia Untouchable as Jeffs Pound W.P.I., 7-0 April 7 - Sophomore Amherst College hurler Emily Melia threw just 60 pitches en route to a complete-game one-hit shutout, as the Jeffs pounded host Worcester Polytechnic Institute 7-0 on Saturday, improving to 11-4 overall with their fifth straight win. Jeffs Use Third-Inning Rally to Edge Clark, 3-2 March 29 - Amherst scored three runs in the second inning--including what turned out to be the game-winner on an RBI single by sophomore right fielder Tamara Baer--to edge visiting Clark University 3-2 Thursday afternoon at Hill Field. Jeffs Finish Spring Trip With Win Over Hamline, Loss to Buffalo St. March 23 - The Amherst softball team squeaked by Hamline University 1-0 and lost to Buffalo State College 3-2 on Friday to wrap up its spring slate in Fort Myers, Florida with a 6-4 record. Sophomore infielder Missy Mordy ignited the game-winning rally with a leadoff double in the third inning and scored on an RBI single by first-year Gina Scribner. Full Story
Jeffs Down Plymouth St., Fall to St. Ambrose March 22 - Ace pitcher Lauren Peloquin allowed her first run of the season after shutout wins in her three previous outings, but held on for a complete game 2-1 victory over Plymouth State College on Thursday. Peloquin's 12-strikeout performance preceded another pitcher's duel later that afternoon which saw the Jeffs fall to St. Ambrose University, 1-0. Senior co-captain Meg Nelson drew first blood in the opener with her second home run of the season, while rookie first baseman Gina Scribner plated the second Amherst run with an RBI single. Jeffs Split With Framingham, Mass-Dartmouth March 21 - Junior starter Lauren Peloquin tossed her second straight one-hit shutout and drove in a run with a first-inning RBI single as the Jeffs' softball team downed Framingham State 3-0 in the first of two non-league games on Wednesday. Amherst also fell to U-Mass Dartmouth, 4-1, later that afternoon. Jeffs Blank Bowdoin, Fall to Pine Manor March 20 - Amherst College junior right-hander Lauren Peloquin (Berkeley, MA) tossed a one-hit shutout as the Jeffs remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 win over NESCAC rival Bowdoin College in the first of two games in Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday. softball team opened its 2001 season on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep
of Hamilton College. Junior pitcher Lauren Peloquin (Berkeley, MA) tossed
a complete-game four-hit shutout in the Jeffs' 5-0 win in game one, adding
16 strikeouts to her school-record 41st-career win. Sophomore hurler
Emily Melia (Hingham, MA) picked up the win in the second game, a 26-12

Jeffs Set for Return to Postseason March 8 - Coming off of a 2000 season that left them with a final record of 22-8-1 and a berth in the ECAC Championship Tournament, the 2001 Amherst softball team will look to a stringent defense and a revamped offense to lead them back to the postseason. Co-captain Carline Kelly '01, along with Missy Mordy '03, should combine to form a powerful one-two punch at the top of the lineup, while pitchers Lauren Peloquin '02 and Emily Melia '03 anchor one of the strongest staffs in the NESCAC.
