Amherst Softball 2001 Milestones
1) Placed second in the NESCAC West Division with a 19-12 overall record (6-2 NESCAC) and secured a berth in the inaugural NESCAC Postseason Tournament (fell to Tufts and Bowdoin in two tournament games).
2) Finished 29th in the nation in pitching with a 1.44 team ERA.
1) Junior Starting Pitcher Lauren Peloquin (Berkley, MA/Coyle-Cassidy Memorial)
*Finished fourth in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings (9.2), led the NESCAC and finished fifth in the nation in ERA (0.43 Ð team-high) to go along with 170 strikeouts and just 23 walks in 129.1 innings of work.
*Tabbed First Team All-NESCAC, NESCAC Pitcher of the Year, Second Team ECAC Division III New England All-Star, Second Team NFCA All-New England. Also named the NESCAC Player of the Year as a sophomore.
*After a 10-0 start, finished with a 14-5 overall record and went the distance in all 18 of her starts. She also didn't allow an earned run until her sixth game of the season, surrendered just eight earned runs all year and went on to post eight complete-game shutouts.
*Named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the period ending April 1, after tossing a complete-game three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 3-2 Amherst win over visiting Clark University. Just 10 days later, Peloquin struck out 10 batters en route to her third career no-hitter, as Amherst blanked visiting Brandeis University 8-0 in a game that was called in the fifth inning due to the NCAA eight-run rule.
2) Senior Outfielder Meg Nelson (Middletown, CT/Middletown)
*Finished 12th in the nation in doubles (0.45/gm.) and seventh in the NESCAC in batting average (.374 Ð team-high).
*Tabbed First-team All-NESCAC, Second Team ECAC Division III New England All-Star and Second Team NFCA All-New England.
*Led the Jeffs in nearly every offensive statistical category, including 37 hits, 19 runs, 14 doubles, two home runs, 17 RBIs, 61 total bases, .616 slugging and 13 multiple hit games.
3) Senior Second Baseman Carline Kelly (S. Dartmouth, MA/S. Dartmouth)
*Tabbed Second Team All-NESCAC and Third Team NFCA All-New England selection.
*Finished her senior year as Amherst's second leading hitter with a .327 average, led the Jeffs with four triples and was second on the club in doubles (7), third in hits (32) and runs scored (17) and fourth in RBIs (14).
4) First-Year First Baseman Gina Scribner (Star, ID/Eagle)
*Tabbed NESCAC Co-Rookie of the Year and Third Team NFCA All-New England.
*Finished as the Jeffs' third leading hitter with a .324 batting average, 33 hits, 16 runs and 14 RBIs in a team-high 102 at bats and posted eight multiple hit games, including a stretch of four consecutive in late March.
