POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - After testing its wares in an exhibition against a tough University of Capetown club on Monday, the Amherst College men's squash team feasted on a Vassar College team that already had three matches under its belt with an 8-1 road win on Wednesday. It was the first official match and first victory of the season for the Jeffs.
Senior Captain Addison West (Haverford, PA) set the tone with a 3-0 (15-10, 15-9, 15-11) victory over Vassar top-seed Andrew Schmidt. Elsewhere in the draw, Amherst sophomore Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) downed Vikrama Lakwara 15-12, 15-12, 15-9, sophomore David Bauer (Darien, CT) blanked Tim Shea 15-6, 15-11, 15-7, newcomer Asad Haque (Richmond Hill, Ontario) edged Stefan Pasymowski 9-15, 15-10, 15-11, 15-12, sophomore John Holodnak (Wellesley, MA) topped Jorge Baez 15-7, 15-9, 15-9, senior Ashley Ebersole (Washington, DC) beat tucker Hughes 15-6, 15-7, 15-9, senior Sujay Desai (Avon, CT) routed Matt Karson 15-7, 15-12, 15-13 and sophomore Roger Boulay (Norfolk, MA) downed Patrick Healy 15-12, 15-7, 15-8.
Vassar's Rahul Lulla outlasted Amherst junior John Brody (Baltimore, MD) 15-10, 15-5, 6-15, 15-0 for the Brewers' lone win of the evening.
"Most of our guys played pretty solid despite the long drive and short warm up time," said Amherst head coach Peter Robson. "It was a good confidence boost, especially after a tough match with Capetown on Monday."
Amherst returns to action Thursday, Dec. 7 against visiting NESCAC rival Tufts University.
