freshman Hassan Ahmed, 3-1
It was the third consecutive loss for the Jeffs, who fell to perennial national power Brown University and defending national champion Trinity College in their last two outings, in what has proved to be the most challenging part of their 2000-01 schedule.
Senior Co-captain Addison West (Haverford, PA) came from behind to post one of four Amherst wins, outlasting Franklin & Marshall no. 1 Arjun Krishnan (Madras, India) 3-1 (13-15, 15-10, 15-13, 15-10). Amherst no. 3 David Bauer (Darien, CT) was similarly impressive with a 3-0 win over sophomore Shloka Melwani (Mumbai, India), while no. 5 Asad Haque (Richmond Hill, Ontario) blanked David Galbraith (West Simsbury, CT) and Amherst no. 8 John Brody (Baltimore, MD) downed freshman Hassan Ahmed (Lahore, Pakistan) 3-1.
Franklin & Marshall - ranked 13th in the latest National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association rankings - swept the rest of the matches on the way to victory, while 15th ranked Amherst fell to 4-5 with the loss.
The Jeffs take on M.I.T. this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Harvard University.
