MIDDLETOWN, CT- The Amherst college men's lacrosse team ended its season with a 16-11 loss at Wesleyan University in the quarterfinal round of the inaugural NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament on Tuesday. The win was the 12th straight for Wesleyan (15-1) while Amherst fell to 5-8 with its seventh consecutive loss.

The host Cardinals jumped out to an 8-1 lead over the first 19 minutes and never looked back, despite a valiant Amherst comeback attempt. The Jeffs were able to cut the deficit to 8-4 at the half, with senior co-captain Eric Edelson (Bethesda, MD) notching a goal and two assists during the run. It was too little, too late, however, as Amherst crept no closer than three goals the rest of the way and the two teams played evenly in the second half.

Edelson finished with a pair of goals and four assists for the Jeffs, while junior Harlow Voorhees (Chevy Chase, MD) added two goals and an assist and sophomore Chris Condlin (Baltimore, MD) scored twice. Meanwhile, Wesleyan's John Landay-the top scorer in all of Division III according to the latest NCAA statistical rankings-became the first player in school history to post 100 points in a season with four goals and two assists.

With the win, Wesleyan moves on to play Bowdoin College in the NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday, with Middlebury College squaring off against Connecticut College in the other semifinal.

Amherst began the season on fire, ripping off victories in its first four games on the way to a 5-1 start, including an 8-5 win at Bates College on April 1 in its conference opener. The Jeffs' seniors helped precipitate the opening surge, led by senior goalkeeper Cory Simonson's (Brookline, MA) stellar play between the pipes and .58 save percentage, and clutch scoring from Edelson and classmate Rob Gibson (South Salem, NY), who finished as the team's top two scorers, respectively.
