HARTFORD, CT - Amherst College fell victim to a pair of fourth period goals by Trinity College senior Rob Morse (Winchester, MA)--including the game-winner with 3:34 remaining--as the Jeffs dropped a New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game to the host Bantams, 9-7, on Wednesday. Amherst fell to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the loss, while Trinity improved to 4-4 and 2-2.

The Jeffs took a 7-7 tie into the fourth period before Morse--who finished with three goals on the afternoon--erupted for a pair of scores to seal the game in the waning minutes. Freshman attackmen James Skiff (Hollywood, CA) and David Huoppi (Pomfret, CT) each added a pair of goals for the Bantams, while junior goalkeeper Eric Wilson (Holyoke, MA) made 15 saves and shut the Jeffs out in the fourth period.

Amherst spread the wealth on offense with six different players piercing the scoring column. Senior midfielder Rob Gibson (South Salem, NY) led the way with a pair of goals, while classmate and co-captain Eric Edelson (Bethesda, MA) upped his team-leading season point total to 26 with a goal and two assists. Meanwhile, senior co-captain goalkeeper Corey Simonson (Brookline, MA) stopped 17 shots in defeat.

The loss moves Amherst and Trinity into a tie for fourth place in the NESCAC standings with matching 2-2 conference marks behind Middlebury College (6-1/3-0 NESCAC), Wesleyan University (8-1/3-0 NESCAC) and Bowdoin College (5-3/4-1 NESCAC).

The Jeffs host Wesleyan Saturday at 2 p.m.
