Amherst Men's Hockey 2000-01 Milestones
Team Accomplishments:
1) Finished second in the NESCAC with an 18-5-2 overall record (12-2-3 ECAC) and secured the second seed in the seven-team NESCAC Postseason Tournament.

2) Advanced to the NESCAC Tournament Championship Game with a 3-0 home win over Williams College in the quarters and a 3-0 win over Bowdoin College in the semis.
3) Fell to eventual National Champion Middlebury College 4-3 in overtime in the NESCAC Tournament Championship Game to narrowly miss an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
4) Finished 2-0 against Williams and 1-0 against Wesleyan to claim the outright Little III Championship.
5) Entered the NESCAC Tournament on a four-game winning streak and finished the season with 10 wins in their last 12 games.
6) Also claimed the Ben McCabe Tournament Championship with wins over Trinity and Conn. College.
7) Finished second in the nation in scoring defense (2.12 gpg), third in power play percentage (.299), fifth in winning percentage (.750), sixth in penalty killing percentage (.880), eighth in scoring margin (2.42) and 10th in scoring offense (4.45 gpg).
8) Ranked sixth in the nation according to the final US College Hockey Online Division III poll.

Individual Accomplishments:
1) Senior Defenseman Jim Smith (Rochester, MN/John Marshall)
*Tabbed the NESCAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-NESCAC for the second consecutive season, JOFA/AHCA College Division First-Team All-American and named to the ECAC East/NESCAC All-Star Team.

*Finished third in the NESCAC, led the Jeffs in scoring and was the top scoring defenseman in the conference (13 goals, 25 assists & 38 points).

*Finished 20th in the nation in assists per game (0.96).

2) Junior Forward Bob Miele (Woburn, MA/Hill School)
*Tabbed Second Team All-NESCAC.

*Earned NESCAC and U.S. College Hockey Online National Player of the Week honors after back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Hamilton and Skidmore Colleges in late January.

*Finished fifth in the NESCAC in scoring (14 goals, 18 assists & 32 points).

*Finished eighth in the nation in power play goals (10).

3) Senior Goaltender Nick Rieser (Northfield, IL/Phillips Andover)
*Tabbed First Team All-NESCAC and named to the ECAC East/NESCAC All-Star Team.

*Named the NESCAC Player of the Week and U.S. College Hockey National Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Jeffs to a pair of critical conference wins late in the regular season over Bowdoin and Colby Colleges.

*Second leading goaltender in the NESCAC (1.91 GAA).

*Finished fourth in the nation in goals against average (1.91), sixth in save percentage (.924) and seventh in goalie winning percentage (.750).

4) Junior Right Wing Darren Reaume (West Seneca, NY/St. Francis)
*Led the Jeffs to a pair of wins over Trinity and Conn. College in the Ben McCabe Tournament, earning Tournament MVP and NESCAC Player of the Week honors for his effort.

5) Senior Defenseman Ben Kennedy (Brockton, MA/Brockton)
*Tabbed NESCAC Winter All-Academic.
