Smith Tabbed JOFA First-Team All-American
March 20 - Senior defenseman Jim Smith was named a JOFA College Division Ice Hockey First-Team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association after leading the Jeffs to the title game of the NESCAC Championship Tournament and an 18-5-3 overall record. A two-time First-Team All-NESCAC selection and this year's Conference Player of the Year, Smith led the Jeffs in scoring and finished fourth in the NESCAC with 13 goals, 25 assists and 38 points in 26 games. Jeffs Fall 4-3 in Overtime in NESCAC Championship Game
March 3 - Both the second-seeded Amherst College men's ice hockey team and top-seeded Middlebury College scored once during a wild, back-and-forth third period, sending Saturday night's NESCAC championship game to overtime, where the host Panthers notched the game-winner just over 10 minutes into the extra session. Amherst will now await a possible at-large bid to the upcoming Division III NCAA Tournament. Full Story

M-Hockey Earns Shot at NESCAC Title With 3-0 Win Over Bowdoin
March 2 - Darce Swaggert and Chris Orszulak each scored during a frenetic 24-second span in the second period to spark the Amherst men's hockey team to a 3-0 win over Bowdoin College in the NESCAC Tournament semifinals at Middlebury College on Friday. Senior goaltender Nick Rieser posted 16 saves en route to his third shutout of the season. The Jeffs await the winner of Friday's second semifinal matchup between sixth-seeded Hamilton College and top-seeded Middlebury, with the championship game set for Saturday at 7 p.m. Full Story

Smith Tabbed NESCAC Player of the Year; Rieser and Miele Named All-Conference
March 2 - Senior defenseman Jim Smith was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year on Thursday, after helping lead the Jeffs to a 16-4-3 regular season record with a team-high 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists). Smith, a First-Team All-NESCAC selection for the second year in a row, joins classmate Nick Rieser, who was selected to the First Team as the league's outstanding goalie, and junior Bob Miele, a Second-Team pick at forward. Men's Hockey Ices Ephs, 3-0, to Advance to NESCAC Semis
February 24 - The Amherst College men's ice hockey team received two goals 72 seconds apart in the first period from first-year Mike Kreger and junior Darren Reaume, before senior tri-captain Chris Orszulak capped the scoring with a late third-period goal, as the Jeffs blanked arch-rival Williams College, 3-0, in Saturday's NESCAC quarterfinals. Senior Jeff goaltender Nick Rieser stopped all 21 shots he faced in the win, as the Jeffs advance to next weekend's conference semifinals at top-seeded Middlebury College. Full Story

M-Hockey Ready for Williams Showdown in NESCAC Quarters
February 23 - Throughout their recent run of success, including their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1999, the Amherst College men's ice hockey team has never been able to escape the most annoying thorn in its side - arch-rival Williams College. The Ephs had owned the Jeffs in men's ice hockey until this season, with the last Amherst victory coming on December 9, 1996. During Amherst's stellar 1998-99 campaign, one of their three losses came at Williams' hands, and last year the Ephs defeated the Jeffs twice, including a season-ending 2-1 loss in the NESCAC Quarterfinals in Williamstown last February 26. Jeffs to Host Williams in Saturday's NESCAC Quarterfinals
February 18 - In seedings released on Sunday, the Amherst College men's ice hockey team received the number-two slot in the second NESCAC men's ice hockey tournament, and will host arch-rival Williams College, the seven-seed, in a quarterfinal game next Saturday afternoon. Full Story

M-Hockey Upends Arch-Rival Williams, 3-2
February 17 - Senior men's ice hockey tri-captain Darce Swaggert (Wayzata, MN) scored in the first and second periods, and first-year forward Mike Kreger (Glenview, IL) added what would prove to be the game-winner 8:25 into the third period, as the men's ice hockey team capped their regular season with a hard-fought 3-2 win at arch-rival Williams College on Saturday afternoon. Senior Amherst goalie Nick Rieser (Northfield, IL) stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced, as the Jeffs locked up the number-two seed in next week's NESCAC Tournament, improving to 16-4-3 on the season. No. 6 Jeffs Down Mass College 4-2 Behind Miele Hat Trick
February 16 - The sixth ranked men's hockey team drew one step closer to earning the second seed in the first-ever NESCAC postseason tournament with a 4-2 win at ECAC rival Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Friday night. Junior forward Bob Miele notched his third hat trick of the season, including a pair of power-play goals and the game-winner midway through the third period - all assisted by senior linemate Jim Smith. Rieser Tabbed National Player of the Week
February 14 - After earning NESCAC Player of the Week honors for his role in a pair of crucial home conference wins over Bowdoin and Colby Colleges over the weekend, senior goaltender Nick Rieser was named the National Defensive Player of the Week by U.S. College Hockey Online on Wednesday. He is the second Amherst player to win the national award this season after junior forward Bob Miele took the honor on Jan. 29. Full Story

Rieser Tabbed NESCAC Player of the Week
February 12 - Senior goaltender Nick Rieser was named the NESCAC Men's Hockey Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Jeffs to a pair of crucial home conference wins over Bowdoin and Colby Colleges over the weekend. Rieser posted 23 saves as Amherst pounded visiting Bowdoin 6-1 on Friday night - narrowly missing his second shutout of the season - and rebounded with a season-high 37 saves in a 3-2 win over Colby on Saturday afternoon. Pitrack Lifts Jeffs Over Colby, 3-2
February 10 - Amherst sophomore Justin Pitrack scored the game-winner off a feed from first-year forward Mike Kreger with 8:45 remaining in the second period to break open a 2-2 tie, as the men's hockey team defeated the visiting Colby College White Mules, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. Senior goaltender Nick Rieser had 13 of his 37 saves in the third period to preserve the victory, which moved Amherst into a tie for second place in the NESCAC. Full Story

DiNardo, Jeffs Rout Bowdoin, 6-1
February 9 - Amherst College senior tri-captain Gregg DiNardo tallied two goals and two assists in a 6-1 blowout win over visiting Bowdoin College Friday night at Orr Rink. The Jeffs improved to 13-4-3 overall and 9-2-3 in NESCAC play with their fifth win in their last six games, moving into a tie for third place with Trinity College in the conference standings. Orszulak's Goals Not Enough as Jeffs Fall at Middlebury, 6-3
February 6 - Despite a pair of goals by Amherst senior Chris Orszulak, third ranked Middlebury College notched its eighth straight victory with a 6-3 non-league win over the visiting Jeffs on Tuesday. Full Story

Carr, Moore Lead M-Hockey Past Southern Maine, 6-0
February 3 - Junior forward Greg Carr scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the visiting Amherst men's hockey team to a 6-0 win at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. Junior forward Dave Moore scored what proved to be the game-winner 6:37 into the opening period, assisted by first-year defensemen Josh Hoffman and John McNicholas. Full Story

Jeffs Down No. 8 Salem State, 3-2
February 2 - The Amherst College men's ice hockey team scored three second period goals en route to a 3-2 ECAC victory over Salem State College Friday night at the Richard H. Rockett Ice Arena. Junior forward Darren Reaume knocked in the game-winner, while senior goaltender Nick Rieser stopped 21 shots for the Jeffs. Full Story

Miele Tabbed NATIONAL Player of the Week
January 31 - After earning New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for his role in a pair of lopsided wins over Hamilton and Skidmore Colleges over the weekend, Amherst College junior forward Bob Miele (Woburn, MA) was named the National Offensive Player of the Week by U.S. College Hockey Online on Wednesday. Miele Notches Second Straight Hat Trick in 8-2 Win Over Skidmore
January 27 - Junior forward Bob Miele (Woburn, MA) scored a trio of power-play goals for the second time in as many games, while the Jeffs' penalty killing unit added a pair of short-handed scores in an 8-2 win over visiting Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon. Full Story

M-Hockey Blanks Hamilton, 9-0
January 26 - Junior forward Bob Miele (Woburn, MA) scored all three of his goals on power plays as the men's ice hockey team blanked the visiting Hamilton College Continentals 9-0. The Jeffs scored on four of their five power-play opportunities, while the penalty-killing unit stopped the visitors on all six of their chances. Full Story

Jeffs Skate To 2-2 Overtime Tie at UMass-Boston
January 20 - Darren Reaume scored with 12:15 remaining in the second period to give the Amherst men's hockey team a 2-2 overtime tie at UMass-Boston on Saturday. It was the Jeffs' third tie in their last four games as they moved to 8-3-3 on the season. Full Story

Jeffs Rout Babson, 6-2
January 19 - The Amherst College men's hockey team used three power play goals, including a pair in the final period, to overpower host Babson College, 6-2, in ECAC men's ice hockey action on Friday night. The Jeffs improve to 8-3-2 overall (4-3-2 ECAC/NESCAC), while the Beavers slip to 8-5-3 overall (3-4-2 ECAC/East). Full Story

Trinity Rebounds for 2-2 Overtime Tie
January 13 - Amherst jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and outshot visiting Trinity College 58-23, but couldn't hold off the resilient Bantams who rebounded for a 2-2 overtime tie in a key New England Small College Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night at Orr Rink. Full Story

Jeffs Fall To Top-Ranked Middlebury, 1-0
January 5 - Amherst played visiting Middlebury College down to the wire but fell victim to a power-play goal by freshman John Dawson 8:18 into the third period as the top-ranked Panthers improved to 7-0-1 with a 1-0 win over the Jeffs Friday night at Orr Rink. Full Story

Pitrack's Hat-Trick Lifts Jeffs Past Fitchburg St., 8-2
January 2 - Sophomore forward Justin Pitrack erupted for his first-career hat-track with three goals in a wild second period as the men's hockey team shook the rust from a 23-day holiday layoff to steamroll visiting Fitchburg State 8-2 on Tuesday night at Orr Rink. The Jeffs improved to 7-2 with the win and outshot the shell-shocked Falcons 56-19. Full Story

Jeffs' Six-Game Win-Streak Snapped at Plattsburgh St.
December 9 - The Amherst College men's ice hockey team traveled to national powerhouse Plattsburgh State in search of its seventh straight victory on Saturday, but came away with a 4-0 loss despite a strong outing by senior goaltender Nick Rieser. Full Story
