Plattsburgh, NY - The Amherst College men's ice hockey team traveled to national powerhouse Plattsburgh State in search of its seventh straight victory on Saturday, but came away with a 4-0 loss despite a strong outing by senior goaltender Nick Rieser (Northfield, IL).

The second-ranked Cardinals set the tone with an unassisted power play goal by Mark Coletta 4:45 into the first period. Brian Toussaint then pushed the lead to 2-0 off a nice feed from Guy Come at 14:58, before Rob Retter scored in the second period and Bobby Owen in the third to ice the game for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh improved to 9-2 with the win as goaltender Niklas Sundberg finished with 20 saves for his second shutout of the season. Amherst, who entered the game after consecutive road wins at New England College, St. Anselm and Wentworth, fell to 6-2 with the loss despite 24 saves from Rieser.

It was Amherst's last outing before the Christmas break and the final game of a four-game road-swing to close out its 2000 slate. The Jeffs return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 2 against visiting Fitchburgh State at 7 p.m.
