Miele notched his first hat trick of the season and assisted on the game-winner in an important 9-0 victory over visiting NESCAC rival Hamilton College on Friday night. With the win, the Jeffs jumped ahead of Hamilton into fifth-place in the NESCAC with a 9-3-3 overall record and a 5-2-3 mark in league play - just two points out of second place in a tight conference race.
He then repeated the feat in an 8-2 home-win over Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon, connecting twice on power plays in the first period - both on wrist shots from the right wing assisted by senior defenseman Jim Smith (Rochester, MN) - before scoring on another power play 9:56 into the second period to all but ice the game for Amherst.
"We've incorporated a lot of player and puck movement into our power play - something we put in at the end of last season," said Amherst Head Coach Jack Arena '83 on his club's recent offensive outburst. "We had to get used to seeing different reads and alignments and in the last few weeks it's really clicked. Miele's been the guy at the right place at the right time."
Miele is now the Jeffs' third leading scorer with eight goals and 10 assists on the season.
Amherst - now 10-3-3 overall - returns to action Friday night at Salem State at 7 p.m. The Jeffs will not face another NESCAC foe until Friday, Feb. 9, when the fourth-place Bowdoin Polar Bears travel to Orr Rink for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
