Sophomore Erik DiNardo gave
the Jeffs an early 1-0 lead
BOSTON, MA - Junior forward Darren Reaume (West Seneca, NY) scored with 12:15 remaining in the second period to give the Amherst men's hockey team a 2-2 overtime tie at UMass-Boston at the Clark Athletic Center on Saturday. It was the Jeffs' third tie in their last four outings as they moved to 8-3-3 on the season.

Reaume's game-tying goal, set up by a back-handed feed from senior forward Rob Hill (Averil Park, NY), forced the game into a scoreless overtime. The Jeffs then held the upper-had in the extra session, but couldn't break through despite five shots on goal and several legitimate scoring opportunities.

Amherst jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage when sophomore forward Erik DiNardo (North Reading, MA) rocketed a one-timer past UMass Boston goaltender Jason Gardner after a pair of touch passes by classmate Erich Schram (Madison, WI) and rookie John McNicholas (Lake Forest, IL) 1:36 into the opening period.

The Beacons answered right back at 5:02 when Tom Leyne connected on an unassisted breakaway past Amherst sophomore goaltender Justin Jagher (Framingham, MA) - making just his second start of the season - and took a 2-1 lead later in the opening frame when teammate Robert Sullivan found the net with a right-handed wrist-shot six minutes later.

Amherst outshot the Beacons 39-24 and got a solid game from Jagher, who finished with 22 saves in 65 minutes of action. Meanwhile, Gardner tallied 37 saves for UMass-Boston, who moved to 2-11-2 with the tie.

The Jeffs host NESCAC rival Hamilton University Friday night at 7 p.m.
