October 1, 2000

MIDDLEBURY, VT - Sophomore Todd Ballaban (Thousand Oaks, CA) fired a 159 and finished just one stroke off the lead as the Amherst College men's golf team tied host Middlebury College for second place in the NESCAC Championship Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.

The Jeffs matched Middlebury's two-day tally of 659 but finished 14 strokes shy of eventual champion Williams College, who scorched the field with a 321-324-645.

Ballaban's 159 earned him a three-way tie for second place with Williams' Will Sicks and Aaron Flink. Meanwhile, Amherst junior Michael Blaisdel (South Strafford, VT) shot a 162 and tied Hamilton's Tyler Leach for sixth place, while sophomores Jude Volek (New York, NY) and Steve Collins (Beverly Hills, MI) finished in a two-way tie for 23rd place with identical scores of 169. Elsewhere in the draw, senior Mark Still (Devon, PA) shot a 177 for 35th place overall.

David Greiner of Middlebury won the individual title with a 158 total.
