SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Amherst College men's golf team shot a 326 and finished seventh at the 15th Annual Joseph C. Palamountain, Jr. Invitational Golf Tournament, hosted by Skidmore College at McGregor Links on Monday. Sophomore Jude Volek (New York, NY) fired a 78 and finished in a six-way tie for ninth place to lead all Amherst scorers.
Meanwhile, Amherst sophomore Steve Collins (Beverly Hills, MI) shot his best round of the season, finishing in a seven-way tie for 25th place with an 81, followed by teammates Mike Blaisdell (South Stafford, VT) in 36th (83), Mark Still (Devon, PA) in 39th (84) and Todd Ballaban (Thousands Oaks, CA) in 53rd (88).
Host Skidmore shot an Invitational-record 291 to win the tournament, led by junior Joey Pohle, who posted a tournament-record four under par 68 to win the event by two strokes over Hamilton's Tyler Leach. Skidmore, ranked fourth nationally, won the 13-team event by 23 strokes over second place Hamilton, while Williams finished third with a 311 and Nazareth College finished fourth with a 318.
Amherst returns to action this Saturday at the District I Shootout, hosted by Williams College.
