Jeffs Drops NESCAC Matchup at Trinity, 78-74
February 3 - The Amherst men's basketball team dropped its second straight game with a 78-74 road-loss to NESCAC rival Trinity College on Saturday. Sophomore forward Steve Zieja erupted for a career-high 31 points in the losing effort, as the Jeffs fell to 13-4 on the season. Full Story

Jeffs Suffer First Road-Loss, 76-70 at Colby-Sawyer
February 1 - Colby-Sawyer sophomore forward Ethan Betts scored two of his game-high 28 points with 1:05 remaining to give the host Chargers a 70-68 lead they would never relinquish on the way to a 76-70 win over 22nd ranked Amherst College on Thursday. It was the Jeffs' first road loss of the season after nine straight victories away from the friendly confines of LeFrak Gymnasium. Full Story

Jeffs Down Rhode Island College 94-67 Behind Sexson's Career-High 17 Points
January 30 - Amherst hit 10 of its first 13 field goal attempts while senior Tri-captain Abe Sexson poured in a career-high 17 points in a lopsided 94-67 win over visiting Rhode Island College on Tuesday night. The 22nd ranked Jeffs won for the 12th time in their last 13 games, improving to 13-2 on the season. Full Story

Zieja, Fitzsimons Power Jeffs to 72-60 Win at Bates
January 27 - Sophomore Amherst College forward Steve Zieja (Hadley, MA) scored 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, and classmate Pat Fitzsimons (Durham, NC) contributed 13 points, a career-high 21 rebounds and a career-best five blocked shots, as the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs earned a 72-60 victory over the host Tufts University Jumbos in a key early-season NESCAC road test on Saturday afternoon. M-Hoops Holds Off Bates, 91-81
January 26 - Despite a game-high 28 points from junior Bates College forward Alex Wilson (Duxbury, MA), including his 1,000th career point, the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs used terrific first-half shooting to claim a 91-81 NESCAC men's basketball victory, surviving a furious Bobcat rally to improve to 11-2 on the season. Hot-Shooting Middlebury Upends Amherst, 102-87
January 20 - Middlebury College jumped out to a 47-35 halftime lead and never looked back on the way to a 102-87 victory, handing host Amherst (10-2/1-1 NESCAC) its first NESCAC loss of the season on Saturday. The Panthers (8-6/1-1 NESCAC) shot 65.0 percent (13-for-20) from behind the three-point arc including a 6-for-6 performance by center Andrew Shogan. Full Story

Jeffs Take Little III Title With 59-57 Win Over Williams
January 19 - Senior co-captain Brian Daoust (Dover, MA) hit a jumper with 1:04 remaining to put Amherst College ahead for good, as the Jeffs clawed back from a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat arch-rival Williams College, 59-57. Sophomore Steve Zieja (Hadley, MA) led the hosts with game-highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Full Story

Jeffs Ready for Round-Two Against Williams
January 18 - Thanks to their unprecedented doubleheader sweep of arch-rival Williams College last Saturday in Williamstown, the Amherst College men's and women's basketball teams will have a chance at home on Friday night to accomplish something done only once before in school history-a four-game season sweep of the Ephs. Judging by last Saturday's contests, however, both teams will have their work cut out for them if the Jeffs are to accomplish such a feat for the first time since the 1982-83 season. Full Story

Donovan, Daoust Lead Jeffs Past Wesleyan, 93-77
January 16 - First year point guard John Donovan and senior Co-captain Brian Daoust combined for eight 3-pointers while Amherst College shot 47.5 percent from the field (29-for-61) and 88.0 percent (22-for-25) from the charity strip as the hot-shooting Jeffs outlasted host Wesleyan University 93-77 in a Little III men's basketball matchup on Tuesday. Daoust's 27 Points Leads M-Hoops to 73-64 Win at Arch-Rival Williams
January 13 - Senior Tri-captain Brian Daoust (Dover, MA) scored a game-high 27 points, including 16 in the first half, and sophomore forward Steve Zieja (Hadley, MA) added 18 points and nine rebounds, as the Jeffs took the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader at Williams with a 73-64 victory over their arch-rivals, their fourth win in their last five games against Williams. Jeffs Primed for Saturday Matchup at Williams
January 12 - With the opening night of New England Small College Athletic Conference play one week away, the Amherst College men's and women's basketball teams turn their attention towards their arch-rivals this weekend, with Saturday night's doubleheader at Williams College's Chandler Gymnasium opening a stretch of three consecutive Little III match-ups. Both of Amherst's basketball teams have jumped out to terrific starts, but that all is thrown out the window for the basketball installment of Division III's oldest rivalry. Full Story

Another Balanced Attack Helps Jeffs Down WNEC, 96-79
January 6 - Crisp passing and dominant play in the frontcourt helped the Amherst College men's basketball team down visiting Western New England College 96-79 in a rematch of last year's first round NCAA Tournament matchup Saturday afternoon at LeFrak Gymnasium. Sophomore forward Steve Zieja scored a team-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, while senior center Abe Sexson added a pair of career-highs with 14 points and 10 boards to lead Amherst. January 2 - Sophomore forward Pat Fitzsimons led five Jeffs in double-figures with a game-high 19 points and 15 rebounds as the Amherst men's basketball team steamrolled Averett College 94-80 Tuesday night in Danville, VA, improving to 6-1 on the season. Full Story

M-Basketball Hangs On For 53-50 Win at Worcester State
December 12 - Senior Tri-captain Erik Kelly scored a season-high 15 points, including a clutch three-pointer to put the Jeffs ahead for good with 6:23 remaining, as Amherst College overcame a 28-27 halftime deficit to edge host Worcester State 53-50 on Tuesday night. Amherst improved to 5-1 with the victory in its last outing before a 21-day layoff for Christmas break. Full Story

Zieja Strikes Again; Leads Jeffs Over Westfield St. 80-75
December 9 - Amherst used a 15-0 run early in the second half to overcome a five-point halftime deficit, holding off a late charge from visiting Westfield State College to post an 80-75 win over the Owls on Saturday night, the Jeffs' fourth victory in five games. Steve Zieja paced the Jeffs with 19 points and 14 rebounds, his third double-double of the season. Full Story

Zieja Leads M-Hoops over Babson, 65-61
December 7 - Sophomore Amherst College forward Steve Zieja (Hadley, MA) poured in a team-high 15 points and added 10 rebounds, his second double-double of the season, to lead the men's basketball team to a 65-61 victory at Babson College on Thursday. Full Story

December 5 - After pouring in a combined 71 points in a 2-1 week for Amherst College, senior point guard Brian Daoust (Dover, MA) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 3. Full Story

Jeffs Hang On For 64-62 Win at Vassar
December 2 - Sophomore forward Stephen Zieja (Hadley, MA) hit a game-winning running one-hander with 1:00 remaining as the Amherst College men's basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 64-62 win at non-league foe Vassar College on Saturday. Full Story

M-Hoops Drops 3-OT Thriller to Clark U.
November 30 - The Clark University men's basketball team held off host Amherst in a wild triple-overtime thriller on Thursday. Clark guard Sean Fleming connected for a buzzer-beating three-pointer to force overtime before Amherst senior Co-captain Brian Daoust responded with a running trey of his own to force a second overtime. Daoust netted a career-high 39 points in the loss as the Jeffs fell to 1-1 on the season. Full Story

Zieja's 25 Points Spark Season-Opening Win at Mass. College
November 28 - Sophomore guard Stephen Zieja poured in a game-high 25 points on 8-for-13 shooting as Amherst overcame a five-point deficit with under eight minutes remaining to take its season opener, 83-76 at Mass. College on Tuesday. Full Story
