34 games this season
A First-Team All-NESCAC selection and Amherst's Most Valuable Player Award recipient, Whitmarsh was the NESCAC's second leading hitter on the strength of a school record 28-game hitting streak. He finished the season hitting safely in 33 of the Jeff's 34 games and led Amherst in nearly every offensive statistical category including hits (54), home runs (6), RBIs (27), doubles (14), total bases (88), slugging percentage (.710) and on-base percentage (.493), and was second on the team with 27 runs scored.
Whitmarsh posted 16 multiple hits games, including a four-for-five performance in the Jeffs' playoff clinching win over visiting NESCAC West Division rival Middlebury College on May 5 - the game after the Panthers ended his school-record hitting streak at 28.
Amherst won its last four league games to finish 20-14 overall and 8-4 in conference play, placing second in the NESCAC West Division standings and qualifying for the conference's four-team postseason championship tournament. The Jeffs will lose just four players to graduation and return 23 players when spring practice starts next season.
