Amherst Falls to Mount Holyoke, 8-1
February 6, 2007
SOUTH HADLEY, MA – The Amherst College women’s squash team fell to cross-town rival Mount Holyoke College this evening on the road, 8-1. The loss drops the Lord Jeffs to 6-12 on the season in dual matches.
The 22nd-ranked Amherst eventually lost the match 8-1 to the 16th-ranked Mount Holyoke side, with all eight of its losses coming by way of three-games-to-none shutouts. The lone win for Amherst came from Libby Martin (St. Louis, MO), who polished off her match over Lueyen of Mount Holyoke, 3-0 (9-2, 9-7, 9-2).
Martin has been a bright point for the struggling Jeffs as of late, as she rattled off four consecutive personal wins heading into the NESCAC Tournament last weekend, and has resumed her winning ways in this, the first of Amherst’s post-tournament matches.
Amherst looks to get back to its winning ways against NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College on Saturday for a 12 p.m. match. The rivalry between the two small colleges could be just what Amherst needs to fire up their squad for a win.
