AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women’s squash team closed out the weekend by blanking Wellesley College 9-0 in Saturday’s first game and nearly pulling out another victory against William Smith College in the second game, but the Jeffs fell 5-4 to the visiting Herons to move to 5-8 on the season.

Amherst had no problems with Wellesley, as seven Lord Jeffs needed just three games to pull off the victory against the 25th-ranked Blue. Amherst’s first four slots came away with wins in the second game, but William Smith’s five remaining slots lifted the 18th-ranked Herons to a 5-4 victory.

Senior Abby Mantica (Sewickley, PA) and junior Libby Martin (St. Louis, MO) each went 4-0 over the weekend to lead Amherst.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Friday, Feb. 2 for the beginning of the NESCAC tournament. Matches will be held at Trinity College, with match times to be determined soon.
