AMHERST, MA – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) named six members of the Amherst College women’s lacrosse team to the Berkshire All-Region Team yesterday. Seniors Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ), Liz Wise (Scarsdale, NY) and Emery Sweeney (Darien, CT) were named first team alongside sophomores Amy Craig (Denver, CO) and Mary Noonan (West Roxbury, MA), while junior goalie Linda McEvoy (Rochester, NY) grabbed second team honors.

With the honor of being named to an IWLCA All-Region team, these four student-athletes will now be eligible for National All-American honors. The All-American teams will be announced on May 29, and will be honored at a banquet in Downington, PA on June 16, 2007.

Briody and Craig were named to the first team for their potent offensive combinations this spring. The two attack players combined for 122 points on 72 goals and 50 assists. The pair was responsible for just over 51% of Amherst’s total points for the 2007 season. This is Briody’s second straight first team selection, and for Craig it marks a move from the 2006 second team.

Amherst had a pair of midfielders named the First Team as well, in Noonan and Wise. Noonan was third on the team in scoring this year with 31 points on 21 goals and 10 assist. Wise finished the season with 11 points, and led Amherst in caused turnovers (26) and ground balls (36).

Joining her teammates on the first team is the speedy defender Sweeney.  Sweeney was crucial to Amherst’s solid defensive foundation this spring, as she was a shutdown defender, causing 18 turnovers in 15 games, and picking up 35 ground balls. Sweeney, a one-person equation for a successful clear, was named to the first team for the second straight year as well.

McEvoy is the lone Jeff to grab second team honors after a stellar season in net. McEvoy turned away 129 shots this spring, and posted an 8.41 goals-against-average. This is her first IWLCA All-Region award.

Amherst graduates seven seniors this spring, but also returns a solid group for to form a great foundation for next season’s squad.
