AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore Amy Craig (Denver, CO) was named the NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for her dominating performances in the Lord Jeffs’ two wins on the road last week. Craig scored five goals in each game, leading Amherst to a 7-6 victory over Springfield College and a 13-7 win over NESCAC rival Conn. College.
Thursday at Springfield, Craig scored two goals in the first half to keep Amherst in the game, as the Jeffs headed into halftime trailing 4-3. The Pride increased their lead to 6-3 after the first 15 minutes of the second half, but senior quad-captain Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) stopped the bleeding by scoring at the 16:28 mark. It was all Craig the rest of the way, as she scored the final three goals of the game in a span of five minutes and 14 seconds (with all three goals accompanied by Briody assists) to lead Amherst to a 7-6 come-from-behind win.
Craig got right back to work Saturday, scoring one goal in the first half and four in the second half en route to a 13-7 Amherst victory over Conn., marking the third time this season she has scored five goals in a game. Her season goal total moves to 20, the second highest in the NESCAC.
Craig and the Jeffs return to action Wednesday for a home match-up with NESCAC rival Trinity College at 4:30 p.m.
