The Lord Jeffs posted an impressive 16-5-3 regular season record
Amherst to Host Opening-Round Game of NESCAC Tournament for First Time
February 20, 2007
AMHERST, MA – The ninth-ranked Amherst College women’s ice hockey team secured its first-ever home NESCAC first-round game after defeating Connecticut College on Friday, 2-0. The Jeffs finished their season on a high note, beating Williams College in overtime 5-4 and tying second-ranked Middlebury College, 2-2. Amherst ended a solid regular season with a record of 16-5-3 (10-3-3 NESCAC).
Amherst will look to continue its winning ways, as it will play host to Williams for the second time in three weeks. The Jeffs have no easy task in the Ephs, who defeated Amherst 5-2 earlier in the season before losing to their archrivals for the first time in program history. Despite its recent surge, Williams struggled through its difficult NESCAC slate, posting a 5-7-4 conference record en route to an overall record of 8-12-4.
The Lord Jeffs will have a chance to advance to their first-ever semifinal contest with a win over the Ephs at 4 p.m. With a win, the Jeffs will play their semifinal game at Middlebury College against an opponent to be determined after the first-round match-ups. Amherst has fared well against the top seeds in the tournament, tying Bowdoin College 3-3 Jan. 19 and falling to Middlebury 1-0 early in the season before tying the top seed 2-2 Feb. 9.
The Jeffs’ quarterfinal game will be covered live by the Amherst College student-run radio station, WAMH (http://wamh.amherst.edu/).
