CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Amherst College women’s ice hockey team earned its seventh win of the season this evening beating the Engineers of M.I.T. 7-1. The win is the fourth in a row for the Lord Jeffs, topping their longest winning streak from last season.
The reigning NESCAC Player of the Week, first-year, goaltender Krystyn Elek (Summerville, S.C.) was given the night off, while senior Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) started in net for the Jeffs posting a strong defensive effort. The seven goal outing matches Amherst's highest scoring game of the season.
Amherst got on the board in the first period, when Anna MacLean (Edina, MN) was set-up by Meg Dickoff (Minnetonka, MN) and Alyssa Chwick (Rye Brook, NY) for what would set the tone for the night. The MacLean goal was on the power-play, but Amherst would quickly flex their muscles, scoring two even-strength goals in the next two-and-a-half minutes.
The game-winner was scored by first-year Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) at the 12:29 mark of the first period, essentially opening the floodgates. Amherst scored three more goals in the second period, highlighted by a pair of goals from junior Elizabeth Ditmore (Excelsior, MN).
M.I.T.’s Sarah John scored the Engineers' only goal of the night on the power-play in the third period but it was too little, too late, as the Lord Jeffs cruised to the win.
Amherst returns to the ice this weekend when they face Bethel University in Minnesota on Friday Jan 12, at 7 p.m.
