Jeffs Finish Third, Harper Takes Individual Title at NESCAC Championships

October 8, 2006

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Amherst College women's golf team finished in third place with a score of 360 at the 2006 NESCAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Williams College on Sunday. Senior captain Sarah Harper (Rochester, MN) shot a 77 to win the individual title.

Williams and Middlebury College dominated the day overall, finishing a comfortable first and second, respectively. Harper, though, was able to outplay the field to win the individual title by two shots.  The next four lowest scores belonged to Williams golfers, with three Middlebury players finishing out the top eight.

Although Harper was the only Amherst player to finish in the top 20, the team snuck into third place, its best team performance of the fall season. Harper also put in her best individual performance of the season: she finished ninth and fifth in her first two matches, respectively, and trumped her own fourth-place finish in the 2005 NESCAC championship tournament.

The Jeffs return to action on the road Saturday for the Wellesley Invite, hosted by Wellesley College.
