Amherst Opens Spring with 8th-Place Finish at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – The Amherst College women’s golf team began its spring season with a trip to Georgia for the Jekyll Island Women’s Collegiate. The Lord Jeffs placed eighth overall, with senior captain Sarah Harper (Rochester, MN) pacing her team in a tie for 13th place.

Harper’s three-day total of 241 placed her 18 shots behind the leader, and only nine shots behind second place, while her 32 pars were tied for the third most over the three rounds. The senior captain saw the most success on par-four holes, where she averaged a 4.47, the 13th best par-four average in the field.

Joining Harper were junior Ali Berman (Boca Raton, FL) and first-year Kinne Schwartz (Allen, TX), who finished tied for 40th and tied for 43rd, respectively, with just one stroke separating them. First-year Jordan Chafetz (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) finished tied for 70th, while sophomore Amanda Otieno (Gloucester, MA) made her collegiate tournament debut after spending the first semester as a member of the Amherst basketball team.

Amherst gets a break until Saturday, Apr. 14 when the Jeffs return for the Vassar Invitational.
