December 9, 2006

From a Skidmore Release

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Amherst College women’s basketball team picked up their fourth consecutive win this afternoon when they topped Skidmore College in a non-conference match-up. Amherst moved to 5-3 on the season with the win, and heads into their final game before winter break with great momentum.

The Lord Jeffs played exceptionally well on the day, shooting a blazing 54% from the field, and 58% from three-point range. Amherst saw four different players score in double digits, including getting fourteen points from senior tri-captain Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) off the bench.

Leading Amherst in scoring were Samantha Swenson (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, IL) who each dropped home 18 points in the game. Swenson was 8-for-11 from the field, while also pulling down 12 rebounds for a double-double. Reiff was just as impressive converting 7-of-11 attempts from the field while dishing out 8 assists.

Sophomore Kerry O’Loughlin (Stow, MA) was the final Jeff to score in double digits, as she netted 15 points and hauled in 7 boards of her own.

Senior guard Shardae Gonsalves (New Bedford, MA) led Skidmore with 17 points, while hitting all eight of her free throw attempts, but it was not enough, as Amherst pulled away with a convincing 73-59 win.

Amherst returns to action on Monday when they face Smith College on the road at 7:00 p.m.
