Jeffs Topple Clark University at Home 76-68

December 5, 2006

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women’s basketball team won its third consecutive game to improve to 4-3 on the season, defeating Clark University in a non-conference match-up, 76-68 at LeFrak Gymnasium. The Cougars of Clark fall to 3-4 on the season.

The Lord Jeffs never trailed during the first half, taking their largest lead of the frame on a jumper by junior Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, IL) with 1:50 remaining, putting Amherst ahead 35-27. The Cougars would rally in the final 1:30, outscoring the Lord Jeffs 7-2 to pull within three points at the close of the half.

Clark took its first lead of the game five minutes into the second half, but Amherst got it right back two minutes later, going on an 8-0 run for a solid two minutes of play. Late in the second half, the Cougars switched to a full-court press that Amherst could not seem to figure out. Clark recorded steals that turned into lay-ups on consecutive possessions, and a Katie McCloskey (Wilbraham, MA) three-pointer pulled the Cougars to within four points with just under three minutes remaining in regulation. Amherst pulled away once again, however, as Clark was unable to pull off the comeback.

Leading the Lord Jeffs in scoring for the fourth time this season was tri-captain Reiff, who finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a dominant all-around game. Senior tri-captain Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) and sophomore Kerry O’Loughlin (Stow, MA) also put in solid performances for the Jeffs, with Muller totaling 13 points and six rebounds and O’Loughlin finishing with 17 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Four Cougars scored in double figures, with senior Jess Lamothe (Westboro, MA) and first-year Jillian Camilleri (Lancaster, MA) each finishing with 13 points to lead their team. Camilleri also led her team in rebounds with eight.

The Lord Jeffs return to action on the road Saturday for a non-conference match-up with Skidmore College. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
