Jeffs Move to 3-3 with Win Over WNEC
SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Amherst College women’s basketball team rolled over Western New England College, 73-54, in day two of the Pioneer Valley Classic held at Springfield College. The Lord Jeffs improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Golden Bears fall to 3-3.
Four Amherst players finished the game with at least ten points: first-year Samantha Swensen (Rockaway Park, NY), sophomore Kerry O’Loughlin (Stow, MA), and juniors Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, IL) and Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, NY), who finished with 14, 11, 17 and 12 points, respectively. The six-footer Swensen added seven rebounds and two blocks, while Reiff added five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
As a team, the Jeffs finished the day shooting 54.4% from the floor and 90% from the free throw line while holding the Golden Bears to just 25.8% from the floor. Leading the way for Western New England was Jen Dabrowski, who totaled 16 points and three rebounds. Also putting forth a solid effort was Vicky Taylor, who racked up eight rebounds and ten points.
At the conclusion of Sunday's games, the Pioneer Valley Classic All-Tournament team was selected, with two Amherst players making the squad. O'Loughlin was selected alongside Reiff, who also took home Tournament MVP honors.
The Lord Jeffs return to action Tuesday, December 5 for a home match-up with Clark University.
