Amherst Softball Coaching Staff

Sue Everden returns this spring to coach the Amherst women's softball team after wrapping up her seasonal duties as the women's volleyball head coach. In addition to her distinguished volleyball record, she guided the Amherst softball team to four consecutive postseason appearances (from 1999 to 2002) and has twice been named NESCAC Softball Coach of the Year in just six seasons as head coach. Everden took a year off from coaching the softball team to serve as Amherst's Interim Athletic Director, but is looking forward to her return to the diamond.

Sue Everden's Career Coaching Record

Lynn Hersey enters her fifth season as a member of the Amherst softball coaching staff after stepping in as interim head coach last season, leading the Jeffs to an 18-12 record and NESCAC tournament appearance. This past winter, she finished her third season as co-head coach of the women's basketball team, specializing in tutoring Amherst's point guards, among other duties, thanks to a standout playing career at Division III power Plymouth State College. She was a four-year starting point guard at Plymouth State, earning team Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman and the college's Female Athlete of the Year award as a senior captain. Upon graduating in 2000 with a degree in sports medicine, the Dexter, Maine native oversaw championships, marketing and broadcast services for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). She then earned a master's degree in sport management at nearby UMass Amherst and, shortly thereafter, lent her expertise as a marketing consultant to the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League.

A new addition to the Amherst College Softball coaching staff, Michelle DePolo will be primarily responsible for overseeing the pitchers and catchers. The Little Silver, NJ native played for Georgian Court University (NJ) where she was a captain for two years and helped her team achieve four Conference Championships, three Region X Championships, three National Tournament appearances, and one ECAC Championship. Upon graduating, DePolo took over the reigns as the head softball coach at the United States Military Academy (West Point) Preparatory School in Ft. Monmouth, NJ. During the 2004 season USMAPS Softball finished with the best record in school history, which included one loss and shutting out the defending Junior College National Champions, twice. DePolo headed back to her alma-mater as an assistant coach, specializing in pitching and recruiting. Last year DePolo served as an assistant coach at nearby Smith College. Off the field, DePolo received her degree in English from GCU where she was named Presidential Scholar and National Dean’s List recipient. Currently she is a full-time graduate student working towards a Masters Degree in Exercise and Sports Studies at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
