Tyler Named to All-NESCAC First Team

May 10 , 2007

AMHERST, MA – The NESCAC announced today the members of the 2007 Softball All-Conference teams, with first-year Jackie Tyler (Ridgewood, NJ) representing Amherst College by earning a spot on the First Team. Tyler made a strong case for NESCAC Rookie of the Year, but the honor went to Casey Sullivan of Tufts University.

In her rookie campaign, Tyler led the NESCAC in batting average (.513), on-base percentage (.562), slugging percentage (.744) and stolen bases (19), and also led the Lord Jeffs in runs scored (24), hits (40) and triples (4). A late-season injury caused her to miss several games and serve as a pinch-hitter in others, as she was never able to get back to her early-season form that got her off to such an amazing start.

Aside from performing at the plate and on the base paths, Tyler was a pitcher’s best friend in center field. Her solid glove and quick feet gave her the ability to chase down fly balls that many outfielders would not be able to, often times saving runs for her team.

On Apr. 2, Tyler was named the NESCAC Player of the Week for leading the Jeffs to a three-game sweep of NESCAC West rival Hamilton College. Tyler went 7-for-11 (.636) in the leadoff spot during that stretch, scoring four runs while driving in two, picking up four singles, a double and two triples for a 1.091 slugging percentage. Through the first 12 games of the season, Tyler was batting .667 with a 1.033 slugging percentage.
