Jeffs Wrap Up Fall Slate at Wallach InvitationalOctober 16, 2006 In the A Double Flight, Amherst sophomore Zach Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) and senior co-captain Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD) paired up to advance to the quarterfinals, but lost a close match to eventual finalist Bates. Junior Jeff Wan (Staten Island, NY) and Lerner represented Amherst in the A Singles Flight of the tournament; both lost hard-fought matches. Wan lost to Colby's Brown, the eventual champion, and Lerner fell to Bowdoin finalist Alex Caughron. The Jeffs found more success in the B Flight: senior co-captain Jeff Lawrence (Irvine, CA) advanced to the finals, but dropped the match in heartbreaking fashion to Middlebury College’s Chris Mason. Young Jeffs showed promise in the C and D Singles Flights, as first-years Daniel Gonzalez (West Roxbury, MA) and Ben Krause (Vancouver, BC) advanced in the C and D flights, respectively. Gonzalez lost in the quarterfinals, and Krause lost in the semifinals to the D Flight Champion Zach Fenno, who represented Bates. Its fall slate finished, Amherst returns to action in the spring, starting with a spring break trip. |
