ITHACA, NY - The Amherst College men's tennis team opened its fall slate at the Cornell Invitational at Cornell University this weekend. The Jeffs reached the quarterfinal stages of the tournament in Flight C Singles, Flight D Singles, and Flight B Doubles. Amherst also saw a number of individual players reach the later rounds of the tournament's consolation bracket.

In Flight A singles action, senior co-captain Jeff Lawrence (Irvine, CA) lost his opening round match to the eventual tournament runner-up from host Cornell. In the singles B bracket, first-year Dan Kim (Springfield, MO) lost his opening round draw against the eventual bracket champion from the State University of New York-Binghamton, but won his second match of the weekend 6-3, 6-2 over Lehigh University's Andrew Balshi.

In doubles play, the duo of Lawrence and sophomore Zach Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) lost their opening round match in the A draw but topped a Lehigh tandem to move into the semifinal round of the consolation bracket.

The Jeffs return to action on Sept. 29 at the ITA Regional, hosted by Williams College.
