May 19, 2007
ST. LOUIS, MO – Amherst College sophomore Zack Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) had his impressive 2006-07 campaign come to and end Saturday morning, when he fell to Matt Seeberger of California-Santa Cruz in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship Tournament, 6-1, 6-2. Seeberger was recently named the ITA National Senior Player of the Year.
Lerner entered the NCAA Tournament with a 2006-07singles record of 15-2 and finishes at 17-3, an impressive record to go along with his All-NESCAC First Team and ITA Northeast Regional Player to Watch honors. Lerner also saw great success in doubles play, posting a 12-8 record while earning a spot on the All-NESCAC Second Team and qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Tournament.
Lerner’s loss marks the end of the Amherst men’s tennis team’s season, as the Lord Jeffs will hope to see more of the same success beginning in the fall.
