Two Jeffs Earn NESCAC All-Conference Honors; Edelmann Named Coach of the Year

From a NESCAC Release

May 3, 2007

AMHERST, M - The Amherst College men’s tennis team placed two players on the 2007 All-Conference Team. Sophomore Zack Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) earned First and Second Team All-NESCAC plaudits for his play in singles and doubles while junior Tal Avrahami (Riverdale, NY) earned Second Team plaudits for his play in doubles competition alongside Lerner.

Lerner earned the distinction while playing in the number-one spot for the Lord Jeffs all season. Tackling the toughest opponents on the opposing team, Lerner compiled an overall record of 13-2 during his spring campaign, helping to lead the Jeffs to the NCAA Tournament.

Avrahami and Lerner paired up to bring home six impressive victories over key opponents in the number-one doubles spot. Avrahami played alongside Lerner when the Lord Jeffs took on Tufts University in a crucial match to wrap up the regular season.

Also receiving plaudits for the Lord Jeffs is third-year head coach Rick Edelmann. This marks the first time that Coach Edelmann has received the distinction while serving as head coach for Amherst. In Coach Edelmann’s third season as head coach, he led Amherst to a 13-5 overall mark, a semifinal appearance in the 2007 NESCAC Men’s Tennis Championship, and a spot in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
