Jeffs Give Powerhouse Middlebury Tough MatchApril 21, 2007 AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College men’s tennis team gave national powerhouse Middlebury College a good match, but the Lord Jeffs could not pull off the upset, as the visiting Panthers took home the 6-3 victory. Sophomore Zack Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) picked up the biggest win on the day for Amherst, upsetting the third-ranked player in the nation, 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the top singles spot. Junior Jeff Wan (Staten Island, NY) and senior Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD) also picked up singles victories for Amherst, as the Lord Jeffs managed to split the singles matches with the top team in the NESCAC. Wan’s win was the only match that went to a third set, ending in a 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 victory in the fourth spot.
