Jeffs Easily Defeat Springfield at Home 7-2April 20, 2007 AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College men’s tennis team took a convincing win over visiting Springfield College this afternoon at home, winning 7-2. Amherst surprisingly dropped two of the three doubles bouts, but bounced back to take all six singles match-ups. In a rare Friday match, the Lord Jeffs used this afternoon as a warm-up for a national showdown with NESCAC rival Middllebury College tomorrow. Amherst mixed up its doubles pairings from the usually six man rotation, allowing some increased action for the duo of first-years Scott London (Chevy Chase, MD) and Ben Krause (Vancouver, BC). Springfield jumped out to a surprising 2-1 lead after the doubles portion, but Amherst would gather itself, and spring back for a 7-2 win. Both senior co-captain Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD) and junior Tal Avrahami (Riverdale, NY) won their singles matches losing only a single game. The closest match of the day came from London, as he faced off with Springfield’s Trevor Romanzi. Romanzi stole the first set 7-5, but London took the second set 6-1, and the supertiebreaker third set 10-4 for the win. Amherst returns to action tomorrow at noon for a huge match-up against national powerhouse Middlebury College at home.
