March 28, 2007

STORRS, CT – The Amherst College men’s tennis team impressed fans with a gutsy 4-3 win at The University of Connecticut this afternoon, beating the Huskies for their fifth win of the spring. While Amherst struggled with the doubles ranks, dropping the number one and three match-ups 8-2, the Lord Jeffs took 4-of-6 singles slates.

After falling in his doubles slate, Amherst sophomore Zach Lerner (Scarsdale, NY) edges Joey Michaels in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 marathon. Junior Goeff Schwartz (Dallas, TX) followed suit with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win at #3, in an effort which would inspire anyone watching.

Amherst also picked up crucial back-to-back wins in the 4 and 5 holes, with senior co-captain Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD) and junior Jeffrey Wan (Staten Island, NY) taking their matches easily.

Amherst improves to 5-1 this season with the win and will return to action Friday at Wesleyan for NESCAC action at 3:30 p.m.
