Amherst Falls to Fourth-Ranked Penn, 9-0
January 13, 2007
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Amherst College men’s squash team returned to action for the first time since Dec. 9, 2006 and was unable to build on its two-match winning streak, as the Lord Jeffs fell to the University of Pennsylvania, 9-0.
The fourth-ranked Penn team dismantled the Lord Jeffs in relatively quick fashion, as only one match resulted in a single game being won by an Amherst player. Senior Gilly Lane of Penn, entered the day ranked fifth as an individual and surrendered only three points to Amherst senior Drew Blacker (Summit, NJ).
Amherst’s Auloke Mathur (Mumbai, India) and Mark Rapisrda (Brooklyn, NY) played well in the number two and three seed matches, as Mathur averaged 5.0 points-per-game in his three game loss, while Rapisarda took Penn’s Spencer Kurn to a 10-8 third-game result.
Amherst drops to 3-3 on the season, and returns to action this Wednesday Jan. 13th, 2007 when they play host to Dartmouth College at 5 p.m.
