AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior tri-captain Shuaneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) was among the recipients of the regional awards for the 2007 Division III outdoor track and field season, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today.

Garrahan won her second straight NESCAC championship in the 5,000-Meter Run and also placed second in the 1,500-Meter Run, and was one of two athletes to earn Most Outstanding Female Performer honors. Garrahan is seeded third in the 10,000-Meter Run (35:40.41) and fourth in the 5k (16:51.97) entering this week’s NCAA Championships.

Garrahan has excelled in several events throughout her career. She will have her work cut out for her at the NCAA Championships, as she will be looking to bring home a title for Amherst in the 5k, 10k and Steeplechase. Joining Garrahan in the trio of events will be sophomore Elise Tropiano (Plainview, NY), who has also been a consistent leader for Amherst throughout the year.

Rounding out the Amherst competitors for this weekend are junior Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) and senior tri-captain Maria Millard (Orono, ME). While Wilson will join Garrahan and Tropiano in the 5k and 10k, Millard will compete in the 400-Meter Hurdles and the 800-Meter Run.

Garrahan and the other Lord Jeffs head to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Wednesday, with competition set to begin Thursday and conclude on Saturday.
