AJ Scola Named NESCAC Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore goaltender AJ Scola (Holden, MA) was named the NESCAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week for his performance in the Lord Jeffs’ quarterfinal match-up with Wesleyan University.

In just his fourth start of the season, Scola turned aside 33 shots for his second shutout of the season in a 2-0 empty-net win by Amherst at Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the 2007 NESCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. Scola stood tall in the third period, stopping all 14 shots in the final frame to preserve the victory while handing the Cardinals their first and only shutout of the year.

Scola has seen action in seven games this season, posting a solid 3-1 record while recording a .933 save percentage and 2.48 goals-against average.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, March 3 for a semifinal match-up with Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
