Jeffs Show Poise at Duke Nelson Invite September 20, 2006 MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Amherst College men’s golf team had a strong second outing at the Duke Nelson Invitational. Skidmore College took first place, posting a 591 over the two-day stretch. Host Middlebury College combined for a fourth-place 605 on the weekend. The Lord Jeffs put up a season-best 624, a 21-stroke improvement from the last tournament. Sophomore Chris Valentine (Topsfield, MA) led the way for Amherst with a 73-81-154 performance which earned him a 35th-place finish out of 123 golfers. Senior Drew Russ (Maui, HI) followed up with an 80-77-157 final. Senior co-captain Andy Bruns (Eaton, OH) finished with an 80-80-160 in a tie with classmate co-captain Sean Jules, who shot a 77-83-160. Bringing up the rear was first-year Adam Shniderman (Fort Lauderdale, FL), who struggled on the first day but found his stroke and posted an 86-76-162 by the tournament's end. Amherst travels to Williamstown for the Williams Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
