WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Amherst College men’s golf team played in a two-day weekend tournament at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA. Williams College played its first competitive rounds on Taconic over the weekend, hosting several Division III institutions in the tournament. The Lord Jeffs shot a 327-329-656 over the weekend, placing eighth in a field that featured northeastern Div. III powerhouse Skidmore College.
Skidmore captured the team crown as well as individual title with an impressive two-day score of 294-301-595, beating out host Williams College who posted a 300-303-603. Tobin Spector fired an even par two-day total of 70-72-142 to capture the individual first-place medal.
Amherst sent a balanced team of competitors, including senior co-captains Andy Bruns (Eaton, OH) and Sean Jules (Chicago, IL), along with sophomores Glenn Wong (Leverett, MA) and Chris Valentine (Topsfield, MA) and first-year Adam Shniderman (Fort Lauderdale, FL).
The top Lord Jeff was Shniderman, who fired a solid first round of 79 but dropped four strokes in his second day to come in with an 83, good for a total score of 162 and sole possession of 28th place. Following closely behind Shniderman were Valentine and Bruns, who each fired two-day totals of 164, which was good for a tie for 30th individually. Rounding out the scoring for the Jeffs were Wong and Jules, who shot 170 and 171 to place 37th and 38th, respectively.
Amherst returns to action this Saturday, May 5 for the Williams Quad, hosted by the Ephs at Taconic Golf Club.
