Amherst Takes Second at Annual Little Three Championships
April 25, 2007
AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College men’s golf team split the first round of match play at the 2007 Little Three Championships at Hickory Hill Country Club this morning. The Jeffs were shut out by Williams, who swept their first round matches posting impressive 4-0 and 3-1 victories against Amherst and Wesleyan respectively, but rallied to top the Cardinals of Wesleyan 3-1.
The duos of Andrew Bruns (Eaton, OH) & Will Collins (Edina, MN), Jesse Corradi (San Francisco, CA) & Chris Valentine (Topsfield, MA), and Glenn Wong (Leverett, MA) & Adam Shniderman (Fort Lauderdale, FL) all notched wins over Wesleyan, with 5-3, 6-5, and 2-1 scores, respective.
Heading into the afternoon’s match-play round, Williams led the tournament 2-0. Amherst sat in second place at 1-1, while Wesleyan is currently in third place at 0-2.
As the weather turned to a steady, cold rain the three archrivals headed out to play another 18 holes of head-to-head action. Amherst and Williams played neck-and-neck through the first 5 match-ups, leaving the top three Lord Jeffs needing 2 wins for a team victory.
Senior co-captains Jules and Bruns were unable to hold of the top duo from Williams over the last two holes, giving Williams the overall Little Three crown.
