Senior quad-captain Tim McLaughlin led all scorers with 13 points.

Team Effort Beats Emmanuel College, 84-45

November 28, 2006

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College men’s basketball team improved to 3-0 on the young season with an 84-45 road victory over Emmanuel College (0-3) Tuesday night. The Lord Jeffs put in a complete team effort, with 13 Amherst players scoring and 11 seeing at least 10 minutes of game time.

Amherst dominated the game from start to finish, shooting at 49.2% on the night, while its stifling defense held the Saints to 22.6% shooting and recorded 14 blocks and 13 steals. Amherst had too much size for the Saints, who struggled to find open shots all night and allowed the Lord Jeffs to score 44 points in the paint.

Leading all scorers on the night was Amherst senior quad-captain Tim McLaughlin (Chatham, NJ) with 13 points, with junior Andrew Olson (San Diego, CA) adding 11. Olson also dished out nine assists and picked up three steals for the Jeffs.

Leading the Saints was junior Levi Smith (Tulsa, OK) with nine points, with five of those points coming from the free throw line.

Amherst returns to action this weekend when it hosts the Pioneer Valley Classic. The Jeffs will open the Classic by facing Western New England College at 6 p.m. on Friday.
