Olson Named D3Hoops All-American;
Hixon Grabs Coach of the Year Honors

March 19, 2007

AMHERST, MA – D3Hoops.com announced their 2007 All-American Teams for Division III men’s basketball this weekend, with Amherst junior point guard Andrew Olson (San Diego, CA) grabbing first team honors, while the website named head coach David Hixon ’75 the Coach of the Year.

Olson adds the honor to his swelling trophy case for this season, as it will sit closely beside the 2007 National Championship. While Amherst can be considered an offensive force which rolled on cruise control through the NCAA Tournament, Olson is widely regarded as the driver.

Olson was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team, and tabbed the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player this weekend. The awards come just weeks after the pass-first guard grabbed NESCAC Player of the Year and NABC Northeast District Player of the Year honors. Olson was also named the NCAA Sectional MVP for the second year in a row.

Olson finished his outstanding junior season averaging 11.1 points-per-game while dishing out 7.6 dimes a night, while leading the Jeffs to a school record 30 wins and a National Championship. Olson also registered the Amherst single season assist record with 243 on the year, and the career mark with 535.

Hixon was named the D3Hoops.com Coach of the Year after being named the NABC regional Coach of the Year last week as well. The 30-year Amherst head coach brings home his first national title, and recorded his 550th career win in the championship game. Hixon was also named the Molten DIII News Coach of the Year this morning, and will receive the coveted Molten Gold Trophy ball for 2007.
