Olson Reflects on Amherst's Incredible Tournament Experience

March 18, 2007

Olson on the championship game:

“The game went the way we drew it up, and our focus was on trying to take Brandon Adair out of his game. We didn’t give him anything easy, and our defensive switching made it difficult for them to take our guards one-on-one. As far as our offensive sets, we got a lot of good looks, despite their aggressive defense. Right when we got a larger lead, we all got our confidence up a little bit, and we knew at that point we could really win this thing.”

On being named Most Outstanding Player:

“It’s obviously a huge honor, and it isn’t possible for me to have the success I have without the team and everyone around me. It’s a true testament to hard work of the team, and to me.”

On bringing the crown back to Amherst:

“For this program, and for Coach Hixon, it shows all his hard work over so many years has paid off. All the years these guys have spent working towards this, it’s great to bring it home for them. It’s also not just an award for this team, but it’s also to all the guys before us who helped build this tradition for us to continue. It’s going to be amazing to bring this title back to our fans, because they have been behind us the whole way. And finally, it feels good to put up a National Championship banner in our gym, to match the one we always had to see in Williams’ gym.”

On the road for next year:

“We are obviously very optimistic about who we are returning, but it will be tough to replace what we are losing as well. We were the biggest name on every opponents schedule this year, and that is only going to magnify next season. We are really going to have a target on our backs from the start.”
