Amherst to Host Second Round of NCAA TournamentBy Ben Kaplan '09 February 26, 2007 AMHERST, MA - Despite losing to archrival Williams College in the NESCAC Championship game, the Amherst College men’s basketball team has drawn a number one seed and one of five first-round byes in the Division III NCAA Tournament. The Lord Jeffs will host games through the round of eight as long as they remain in the single-elimination tournament. Amherst (25-2) will begin tournament play this Saturday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Thursday’s match-up between Widener University and King’s College. Tickets will be pre-sold Wednesday and Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the front lobby of Alumni Gym, and will also be available on game day at the door, which opens at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the internet by Amherst’s campus radio station, WAMH. The Widener Pride (14-12) represent the Commonwealth Conference and earned an automatic bid thanks to a buzzer-beater win in their conference finals, while the Monarchs of King’s College (19-8) earned an automatic bid by winning the Freedom Conference title. |
