AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore Ryan Platzbecker (Westlake, OH) was named the NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for putting in a pair of solid performances this past week for the Lord Jeffs. Platzbecker pitched seven innings in each of two non-conference wins for Amherst, finishing with a mere 0.64 ERA for the week.

Platzbecker earned two of Amherst's three wins this past week to move to 4-0 on the season. He began the Jeffs' week by throwing seven strong innings against Springfield College, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out seven and walking one. Platzbecker followed up by tossing all seven innings in game one of a doubleheader with Saint Michael's College, allowing one earned run on only four hits while striking out three and walking one.

Aside from posting a perfect 4-0 record, the sophomore left-hander is currently ranked second on his team with a 2.84 ERA, with the opposition batting a mere .226 against him. Platzbecker has made 10 appearances this season to combine for 31.2 innings of work, allowing 26 hits and only 10 earned runs while striking out 22.

The Lord Jeffs have posted a 14-12 record prior to Monday’s game at Westfield State College, with their final conference games scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at Hamilton College, a series that Platzbecker will most likely play a large role in. In order for Amherst to qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament, it must take at least one of three games from the Continentals.
