Jeffs Close Southern Swing with 8-2 Loss to St. Thomas
March 24, 2007
FORT MYERS, FL – The Amherst College baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip in Fort Myers on Saturday, falling to The University of St. Thomas, 8-2. The Lord Jeffs return to action Thursday afternoon for a game with Westfield State, and begin conference play Friday when they take on Wesleyan University at 3 p.m.
The Jeffs got on the board in the fourth inning when sophomore Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA) singled and junior Neal Allar (Floyds Knobs, IN) doubled to place runners on second and third with no outs. Senior Tom Scott (Randolph, NJ) and sophomore Nat Pedley (Rye, NY) grounded out in back-to-back at-bats, but it was enough to plate Powers and Allar.
St. Thomas also chalked up a pair of runs in the fourth inning, adding three in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Tommies (11-5) picked up nine hits on the day and did not commit an error, while Amherst (4-5) managed only four hits and committed four errors.
