February 20, 2006

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The 16th-ranked Amherst College women's squash team suffered a narrow 5-4 loss to Middlebury College in the NESCAC Tournament seventh-place match on Monday night at Williams College. Amherst (7-12) comes away with eighth place in the tournament, while Middlebury improves to 9-6.

The top of the ladder delivered for the Jeffs, as sophomore junior Emily O’Brien (New Canaan, CT), sophomore Libby Martin (St. Louis, MO) and junior Abby Mantica (Sewickley, PA) all posted victories over the Panthers. Amherst stumbled at the bottom of the ladder, however, as only senior co-captain Scotty Hanley (Sparks, MD) was able to come up with a win. First-year player sophomore Heather Nowak (New Haven, CT) battled Middlebury junior Liz Parker to five games at the No. 9 spot, but fell 6-9, 9-1, 9-2, 8-10, 9-4.
