Rookies Lead Amherst Past Hamilton in Overtime

CLINTON, NY- Rookie Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) notched her team-leading eighth and ninth goals, including the game winner 2:58 into overtime as the Amherst College women’s hockey team upended NESCAC rival Hamilton College, 3-2. Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) scored the third Jeff goal, while first year Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA) assisted on all three scores and posts a team-best six helpers on the season. Amherst improves to 3-5-0, while Hamilton drops to 3-6-0.
Simon opened scoring with just 1:14 remaining in the first frame on a power play goal to take the early lead for Amherst. Hamilton built a 2-1 lead in the second period, but Karega tied the game 1:36 into the third to knot the contest at 2-2. The Jeff defense kept the Continentals scoreless for the remainder of regulation, allowing Karega to put away the game-winner in early overtime.
Sophomore netminder Stacey Johnston (Kingston, Ontario) made 28 stops in the victory, while Caitlin Connelly notched 29 for Hamilton.
