Jeffs Drop New Year's Eve Bout at Univ. of Redlands, 58-49
December 31, 2005
REDLANDS, CA - The Amherst College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference New Year's Eve bout at the University of the Redlands on Saturday afternoon, 58-49. Junior guard Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) paced Amherst with 18 points as the Jeffs fell to 4-6 with the loss, while Redlands improved to 4-4.
Muller and senior co-captain Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA) combined for 35 of the Jeffs' 49 points, as Latham was seven-for-nine from the floor for 17 points and nine rebounds. Rookie Yasmine Harik (Rye Brook, NY) followed closely in the rebounding column with eight boards.
The Bulldogs used a very balanced scoring attack and a perfect nine-for-nine shooting performance from the charity strip to build a 10-point first-half cushion, 29-19, and were able to hold on to their lead throughout the second frame. The only scorer in double figures for Redlands was senior guard Florence Lee, who finished with 11 points, while classmates Mara Block, Jackie Cano and Brandy Brackett chipped in eight points apiece.
Amherst returns to action next Saturday at 4 p.m. for a non-conference
tilt with visiting NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College.
